Annual Meeting of the Missouri Valley Branch
of the American Society for Microbiology

at Kansas State University
The Missouri Valley branch of the American Society for Microbiology held an in person branch meeting on March 10-11, 2023 in Manhattan, KS at Kansas State University. Approximately 100 people attended the 1.5 day meeting. The featured lecture by an ASM Distinguished Lecturer was Dr. Miriam Braunstein from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. She presented a talk entitled: The Bacterial Protein Zoo. There were 70 additional presentations by students, faculty, post-doctoral researchers, industry researchers, and clinical professionals from the region. We also featured our Peggy Cotter Award winners: Dr. Carolyn Ibberson from the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Jeonghoon Lee from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Director and Professor Sarah Nickel, from Wichita State University.
The business meeting resulted in a new President-elect, Dr. Austin Nuxoll from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Dr. Nuxoll is a newly tenured associate professor whose primary research area is persister cells in Staphylococcal spp. He was trained at the University of Nebraska Medical Center with Dr. Paul Fey and had a post-doctoral position at Northwestern University. He was a previous Peggy Cotter Award winner. We are happy to have him on the Executive Board of MVB ASM.
